Video - Attempting This Princess Leader Thing

[Mal closed her connection to Merlin and considered what he had said when she arrived, about what a princess is here, about leadership. Then she opened her connection to everyone through her mirror.]

"Alright. Listen up. Someone is missing and we've been asked to go help. Those who chose not to. stay in the assigned apartments. Yours or together with others, I don't care. If things go sideways it will be easier to keep you lot safe if we know which one building you are all in."

[A deep breath.]

"For the rest of us. We need to work together. Most of you probably don't know or like me. That's fine. Most of you if I know you... I don't like you. But we don't have to like each other for this. We just need to work towards the same goal. After, if you want to tear into me, fine, you're welcome to try. But until we all come back successful and safe, we are horns out, not in. We are one."

It's nice to meet you Mal, a pity it was not under different circumstances. [Well considering the reason why he'd asked in the first place it was likely to be questioned a second time. It's not as if he didn't have his own qualms professing himself to be a hero, despite any heroic deeds he might have accomplished in the past] I have a few ideas on that subject. For one, since the various classes are supposed to excel in different ways it might be wise to gather together a diverse team comprised of the volunteers that are available.

"I do not think splitting up into seperate teams is the best idea, given how small our numbers are likely to be. That means whoever we have is what we have for balance, and we'll have to do our best." [Frankly, her fear at the moment was too many leaders.]

I didn't mean to suggest that. [Since he had said team in the singular- so he gently corrected her] .. merely that we should get a better sense of each others strengths and weaknesses. [It was possible that they would indeed end up split up, depending on what they ended up running into despite their preferences] Knowing that we can better utilize who is available and devise more efficient tactics and formations. [For example, you wouldn't want to place those more inclined towards healing or had less ways to defend themselves in a position where they would be more likely to engage in direct combat and the like]

The problem of course being that we don't really know what we'll be up against either... [So he understands that it's difficult to plan for the unknown quantities]

What class did you say you were? [She didn't but here was another opportunity for her to offer it up]

"Do we have time to play happy friendship circle games?" [she asked dryly.] "Honestly I don't know why we aren't arming up and heading out already. Who knows what is happening to him while we sit on our thumbs. And you're right. we don't know what we're up against. So we need to work together and just do our best."

It really wouldn't take that long if all participants were forthcoming with that information. [So- Atem was swiftly learning that Mal was not exactly a strategist. Her whole take on this was let's just run in and hope all the pieces would work fluidly together without any prior training (together) or knowledge. Well- sometimes that could work it's not as if he or his friends had a plan when they ended up in the world of Capsule Monsters. They had to figure things out as they went. This time however... they did have a little time and they should utilize it]

.... You're not the only one whose concerned about his wellbeing. [He replied solemnly but the fact remained that they were ill-prepared. Were they in possession of their own abilities and powers it might be different.] Mm, yes you did say that before. [About working together and doing their best. It was if the concepts were a bit foreign to her and she was repeating them for her benefit instead of his] Tell me something Mal... what does teamwork mean to you?

[She rubbed at her face a bit.] "People all looking towards the same goal, putting aside the pain and drama of the moment to find the thing that matters to everyone at once. The thing we all want. Focusing on that, our hearts beating as one, wills entwined, until we win the day. What happens after.... is after. But in that moment together? That moment of true connection?" [she asked, voice stronger, though some might say this softer.] "That is when we can do anything."

[Atem really hadn't wanted to be confrontational, but they hadn't been getting anywhere. Hopefully this would be a means to break through all that.]

[To his credit, he waited patiently for her to respond and he let her get out her answer uninterrupted. He was glad that he did, because it allowed him to see a brief glimpse of a different side of Mal. Although she did seem inexperienced with having to work with others, it did sound in fact as if she had managed it before. The sentiment sounded real and as if it had taken some effort to deliver]

Our definitions are not so dissimilar. [Offering her a smile] There's really only one key difference. [He took a moment to gather his thoughts before explaining] You see those bonds forged through conflict and adversity as temporary but I think they reach far beyond that. I may not know everything there is to know about you Mal, nor why you seem so leery to place your trust in others- but you can trust me. I realize that words might not mean much, but I don't say them lightly. In time, I hope my actions will convince you.

"Actions and time are what it would take for the long term, yes. But for doing what we have to now, I'll work with whoever I have to. Trust isn't the issue."

[He really did wonder where all her negativity stemmed from...... but she was also keen on rescuing the Dreamfinder which was redeeming to an extent]

Is there anything else you think needs to be discussed at present? Or... do you have any suggestions on how we should proceed?

[To her, that was positivity. Wow.]"If I had more ideas, I would have shared them. I was trying to make peace, but apparently that blew up in my face according to some of the messages I received."

[If possible he did want to leave this more on a positive note. He wasn't interested in stirring up conflict between his fellow apprentices]

[Part of him wanted to gently point out what might have set off the negative responses she received, but somehow that seemed unwise]
