[Mal closed her connection to Merlin and considered what he had said when she arrived, about what a princess is here, about leadership. Then she opened her connection to everyone through her mirror.]

"Alright. Listen up. Someone is missing and we've been asked to go help. Those who chose not to. stay in the assigned apartments. Yours or together with others, I don't care. If things go sideways it will be easier to keep you lot safe if we know which one building you are all in."

[A deep breath.]

"For the rest of us. We need to work together. Most of you probably don't know or like me. That's fine. Most of you if I know you... I don't like you. But we don't have to like each other for this. We just need to work towards the same goal. After, if you want to tear into me, fine, you're welcome to try. But until we all come back successful and safe, we are horns out, not in. We are one."

That is, by far, the worst motivational speech I have ever heard. And I thought you couldn't get worse than monotone daleks or cybermen who pride themselves on not having human emotions and also on taking rank and file orders.

Lead by example, not by dictation. Don't coop anyone up, you haven't the faintest idea what will happen when we leave and it might be far better to have people out on the streets protecting others, blimey. And you can't protect people from the field who are back here. We shouldn't even have to protect anyone who stays behind, they should be in charge of protecting others.

One of humanity's greatest strengths is the capacity to be independent. And while we're not all human, you should work with people's strengths, not go all dalek and try to beat it out of them.

Except I'm not trying to be a leader, because I hate soldiers, I hate orders, and I would never boss around my friends like they're a bunch of minions to do my hard bidding.

I've lost my patience with Torchwood and UNIT a billion times, and I've still never tried to verbally lash them together under my whip.

There's not a damn soul in the multiverse I would listen to who starts off like this.

She needed someone friendlier after that horrid fake princess.] "It's an expression that basically means we put our vulnerable points together to guard each other's backs, while we aim out weapons and anger outward and external foes. Think of bulls, for example. A wolf pack could take one easily so long as one wolf was attracting its attention and avoiding its sharp horns, the others could take down its flanks. Kill it. But a dozen bulls standing with their tails in the center and their horns out? Leaves no way for a wolf to get in edgewise. So we work together. But if one of us turns to fight another of us, they not only leave themselves vulnerable, but the rest of us as well."

He had a feeling she wouldn't appreciate it nor would it draw them any closer to solving their most immediate problem. No- he hadn't met this girl yet nor did she provide a name but the fact that she assumed most people didn't like her and that aversion she shared for them was telling. Still, he wouldn't allow any misgivings to curtail his interactions with her.]

It is imperative that we all learn to work together. [Agreeing with her sentiment towards the end of what was said] It is not only the fate of this world that is at stake, but our own.

It's nice to meet you Mal, a pity it was not under different circumstances. [Well considering the reason why he'd asked in the first place it was likely to be questioned a second time. It's not as if he didn't have his own qualms professing himself to be a hero, despite any heroic deeds he might have accomplished in the past] I have a few ideas on that subject. For one, since the various classes are supposed to excel in different ways it might be wise to gather together a diverse team comprised of the volunteers that are available.

She reminded him of some of his co-workers in the Bad Place: not the most tactful, but honest and to the point. It was the sort of leadership he'd responded to for millennia, and despite all his new human developments and nuances, it struck a chord.

"Horns out," he echoed, grinning as he applauded politely. "I like it. And you're absolutely right. ... I'm Michael. I don't think we've met."
