[Okay. So Aziraphale's message was... less than helpful... and there are a lot of newbies this time around. So Eleanor decides to have another crack at a greeting to all of them.
So she sat on her couch in front of a plain white wall, nothing fancy. A framed candid photo of her and Rosabella hangs off to her right, below it is a picture of Mrs. Brisby. Dressed in a comfy plaid shirt, she gives the mirror a lop sided smile before she begins to speak.]
Hey everyone, I'm Eleanor and I'm just gonna get straight to the point:
Here's the deal. I'm not gonna sugar coat this for you - Things aren't the greatest right now. The townies hate us, which is just making everything a little harder. We're doing our best, but we've gotta work harder if we're going to win back their trust. I know all you newbies are probably getting sick of hearing about everything. There's a loooooot of info. Take it from someone who used to reading, uh, anything So here are some cliffnotes:
-You can get some food for free at places in town - it's good shit, too. That'll help til you get a job or someone to freeload off of.
-The Emporium has everything you might need - ask for me or Michael, we'll help hook you up.
-I'm sure you've already noticed, but the full moon makes things weird around here. Anyone who's a monster class starts looking and acting pretty wiggy. And... don't take it personally, they can't help it. On the new moon it's the exact opposite, so be nice.
-Most importantly: don't do any missions til you've at least tried to do magic... they suck ass if you don't know what you're doing. During my first mission, one guy blew up one of our tents and made the other one invisible. Seriously. You try finding an invisible tent in the dark. It's not fun.
[She gives the mirror a reassuring smile.]
Listen... I know it's a lot. Trust me. I didn't believe a single word of it until I saw the corroded with my own eyes and actually did magic for the first time. But you're not alone. If you want help with magic and shit there are a lot of us around you can talk to. Also, I'm gonna put out the same blanket offer I did a while ago. No matter how long you've been here, If you need someone to train with, talk to, hang out with, bitch at or whatever, I'm your girl. I work at the Emporium, but hit me up through the mirror any time. I'll buy the first round of drinks. Booze, tea, coffee, milk and cookies, a thimble of something, whatever.
[She pauses, biting her lip]
Uuuuhhh yeah that's about it. [Another pause] Fuck, I don't know how to end this without sounding either really lame or super awkward... except now I just made it awkward by saying that. [She facepalms] Just... bye. Okay? Bye.

Date: 2020-07-12 10:10 pm (UTC)Rice arrives at the Gardens a handful on minutes later after coming from her room. She's not in her armour this time, having had an experience with being incredibly tired from before. So she's in a simple tunic that goes down to her knees before her digitrade legs start bending.
She finds an open space and then waits patiently for Eleanor.
<3<3 No worries! And this works!

Date: 2020-07-19 11:14 am (UTC)That's all to say that Eleanor sees the smile reach Rice's eyes when she turns to the woman, the flecks of pink and purple lighting up without her knowledge.
"As I'll ever be,I hope I'm a good student."

Date: 2020-07-21 07:21 pm (UTC)Eleanor matched that smile. This was going to be fun.
"What do you wanna start with?"

Date: 2020-08-06 12:06 am (UTC)"Strong seems pretty easy. I can't do it, but I know someone who can. It's like you put some oomph into your own strength using magic. Um..." She looked around but nothing stood out as a good way to practice. Gesturing, a solid wood practice dummy grew from the ground. "Why don't you try doing something with that?"

Date: 2020-08-17 06:08 pm (UTC)It is probably not unlike steeling herself against very heavy hitting blows from enemies but she isn't sure how to conjure up such a thing without her Aether.
Hmmm.
Rice stands there, considering the dummy for a little while and then walks up to it. She places a hand on it, testing the kind of wood it is, pushing against it to see what sort of resistance it would put up. Solid, indeed.
She thinks back to how she managed to conjure the smallest something during training and tries to hold onto that feeling.
She hops backwards and draws her arm back- perhaps it will be easier with less thinking and more doing-
She gathers her focus into her mind, then down to her arm and along to her fist, and a low humming fills her body.
Eleanor will be able to see a faint shimmering around her limb, as if something is charging up- and then Rice strikes the dead centre of the dummy's chest, a resounding crack rolls out followed by a wave of pressure, rustling leaves and flowers and dust on the floor.
Rice steps back out of her stance, tilting her head and regarding her hand quizzically. There is now a hole in the mannequin, splintered wood bursting from its back.

Date: 2020-08-18 12:58 am (UTC)When the back of the mannequin exploded, she whooped and applauded. "Holy shit that was awesome!! How do you feel?"

Date: 2020-09-09 09:15 pm (UTC)"And also like I could go for a nap."
This form of magic is so foreign to her, yet it feels like... something like a memory swims around in her head, but it's so fuzzy and indistinct she can't really make anything of it.
Huh.
"How much magic do people cast in a day if it takes this much out of them?"

Date: 2020-09-16 03:37 pm (UTC)"It gets easier over time. You get better and can do more. I've gotten pretty good at holding off the worst of the negative effects for a bit."
