Honey I shrunk the apprentices!

I think I have this figured out now. Mostly...

[ She added while adjusting the small mouse sized mirror on a stone so it would be propped upright enough to show what she was talking about then she paced over to stand next to a large acorn. ]

Its Wish magic so all I really have to do is wish for it hard enough and I should be able to make this acorn small enough to fit in the palm of my hand.

[ That said she closed her eyes and held out a paw which began to glow as she made her wish. When her eyes fluttered open again she was indeed holding the now much smaller acorn in her paw. ]

It worked! I mean... I-- I thought it would. I've been practicing this a lot lately and...

[ Just spit it out, she told herself with a deep steadying breath. ]

Would anyone out there feel brave enough to volunteer to be shrunk yourself?

Oh hey yeah change of topic away from the witches. Yes good. Eleanor nodded and grinned, "Hell yeah! Let's do this!"

She stood, moving away from any furniture. If she was going to shrink she didn't want to be stuck on a chair.

The little mouse padded close to the edge of the table herself. She rubbed her paws together and gave a little warning before closing her eyes.

"Alright, here goes nothing."

She wished really long and hard, trying to imagine Eleanor and her clothing... not to make the same mistake twice... getting smaller and smaller.

All that practice paid off! It took a moment, but Eleanor (and her clothes) began to shrink. "Whoa!" She gasped in surprise as the world of the apartment got bigger and bigger. It was definitely a slower process than the last time she was shrank but it still worked.

Almost perfectly...

She ended up a little smaller than Mrs. Brisby. Probably a little smaller than was intended. But still! There was a teeny, fully clothed, Eleanor standing on the floor grinning up at her roommate.

"You did it!"

"Whoa..."

Taking two meals she bounced to the edge of the table and flinging tight to the top, peered over the edge and down at Eleanor.

"Do you feel alright? No dizziness?"

Eleanor blinked, looking around at their apartment. It was so trippy seeing things from this angle.

"A little? But no more than I would be after a couple rounds of shots. Dude, under the couch is nasty!"

The couch... oh yes, but she had been too polite to say anything about that.

"It is like a land where missing things go. There is a sock under there that's new. It only appeared this morning."

But under the sofa wasn't such a terrible place when compared to...

"You really don't want to look under the stove."

She winced, "Yikes. Sorry about that. The couch I can clean... I don't know what the fuck to do about the stove."

But she laughed, gesturing to Mrs. Brisby, "But there are more important things like giving you a proper hug!"

"Now that is something you don't have to say twice!"

She hurried over, wrapping Eleanor in the warmest mouse hug she could ever be cuddled up in.

Eleanor happily hugged Mrs. Brisby back, burying her face in her fur. It was a little weird, sure, but it was a long time coming.

She might be getting a little teary eyed... wait. No. That's a lie. Fuck you, she's not getting emotional about this.

Oh no! At the first sob she sniffled too, trying to hold back a sudden mistiness.

"Now you stop that, if you cry then I'm going to too!"

Eleanor sniffed, "I'm sorry. I don't know what's come over me..."

Lies. She knew exactly what it was... She just couldn't admit it.

"Well..."

Brisby dabbed at her eyes as she finally drew away from the hug.

"It is nice to be able hug you properly for once."

Not that she minded giving those cheek hugs but they weren't quiet the same.

"Agreed! Shit, I think I get what people mean when they talk about 'mom hugs' now."

So her mother didn't hug her much as a child. That was perfectly normal, right? Ahem.

"So, uh, what do you wanna do?"

The idea struck her like a beam of sunlight breaking through the clouds on an overcast day!

"You have to try this!"

Eleanor's hand was grabbed as Brisby hurried the pair of them up a ramp to the armrest of the sofa.

"Now normally I wouldn't encourage this but... since we are both adults I don't see the harm."

With that she let go of the hand and leapt up into the air. She did a sort of canon ball maneuver as she fell which worked in her favor as she landed on the seat cushions and bounced like she had hit a trampoline.

"What?"

Eleanor laughed and let Mrs. Brisby pull her along. She was eager to see things from her roommate's point of view. Once they were up on the arm of the couch and she realized the plan, she laughed even harder.

"I like the way you think!"

Grinning, she followed suit, leaping after Mrs. Brisby to bounce on the cushion of the couch. It was remarkable how high she could bounce at that height.

They passed each other in midair several times as the height of their bouncing slowly evened out leaving one mouse giggling like a kid and laying flat on her back upon the sofa cushions.

"Oh! We shouldn't have done that! I'm always warning the kids off bouncing on the furniture! But is was fun, wasn't it?"

Eleanor came to a stop next to her wonderful roommate. She laid on the cushion, laughing.

"I won't tell if you won't. Besides! What about 'do as I say not as I do'?"

"You have never had children! They never would listen to something like that!"

At least her little hooligans wouldn't, especially Martin. They were far too spirited and free minded.

Her giggling slowly settled as she laid there on the cushion and stared up at the white ceiling.

"We could try treasure hunting next? That is when you dive down between the cushions to see what you can find."

"Never have and never will and I'm totally okay with that."

What? She was never mom material even when she was alive. Nope. Not a chance.

"Whoa, that could be dangerous. Who knows what the fuck could be hidden in here. I'm totally in!"

"Especially around here."

There was that unknown gunk under the stove after all but... she imagined many of the stoves around here were hives of interesting disgustings. The sofa had a much higher chance of being a treasure trove! Why they might even find a penny!

After a while she righted herself and walked along the seam of the sofa cushion to where it met with the back of the sofa. There was a gap here large enough to swallow several remotes so it was more than large enough for two mouse-sized beings.

"Would you like to go first?"

She was definitely not ready for hives of any kind of disgustings. Treasure, though, that she'd be down for!

She got to her feet and followed Mrs. Brisby to the back of the couch. It was so weird seeing things from this perspective. And kind of gross. She made a mental note to try to clean the apartment a little better... eugh. But she smirked at her roommie.

"Oh why the fuck not?"

Feeling brave, she moved to crouch to climb down into the hole... and her feet slipped right out from under her. With a little yelp of surprise she slid right down into the abys.

Fortunately under the cushions were the springs of the sofa which were coated in a dense fabric so that they wouldn't break free and stab any unlucky fellow coming to rest on the couch in the tail end, so she didn't have too far to fall. And Mrs. Brisby was right behind her, using her little mouse claws to better grip the fabric so that she didn't take a tumble as well.

"You took the quick way down," she giggled and she came to land beside Eleanor. "Anything that doesn't fall all the way through the sofa ends up here."

With a look around she took two steps away and picked up a white button. It was a pretty little pearly thing and who could tell how long it had been there.

She was horribly embarrassed, but at least Mrs. Brisby didn't seem to care. Laughing, she pushed herself to her feet and brushed herself off. "Hey don't knock it til you've tried it." When all else fails, cover your shame with humor.

She looked around with Mrs. Brisby. Her eyes fell on some pieces of chips from one of her late night binges. Ew. Oh! But Mrs. Brisby found something worth looking at! She grinned, stepping carefully over to her. "Hey! That's off of one of my shirts. How the hell did it get down here?"
