Honey I shrunk the apprentices!

I think I have this figured out now. Mostly...

[ She added while adjusting the small mouse sized mirror on a stone so it would be propped upright enough to show what she was talking about then she paced over to stand next to a large acorn. ]

Its Wish magic so all I really have to do is wish for it hard enough and I should be able to make this acorn small enough to fit in the palm of my hand.

[ That said she closed her eyes and held out a paw which began to glow as she made her wish. When her eyes fluttered open again she was indeed holding the now much smaller acorn in her paw. ]

It worked! I mean... I-- I thought it would. I've been practicing this a lot lately and...

[ Just spit it out, she told herself with a deep steadying breath. ]

Would anyone out there feel brave enough to volunteer to be shrunk yourself?

Heh, yeah I bet. Though I'm glad not everybody has to deal with being stiff and sore because of their magic.

And I'm pretty sure I can find that. Just wait right there, OK?

[Scorpia ends the call there; some may be able to walk while holding the mirror open, but alas, she lacks the dexterity. It's not too long before she arrives in the castle garden though, and begins looking around, hoping to spot the person she'd been talking to. A task easier said than done, given Mrs. Brisby's tiny size.]

Hello? I'm here! Or at least, I think I'm here. Is this the right place?

[ It could be equally difficult to get close to a much larger person when they were still walking around. Mrs. Brisby waited until Scorpia found a good place to stand and then scuttled up the nearest and tallest flower pot she could find. This only brought her up to calf height but it was better then nothing. ]

Down here!

[ She waved and jumped, hoping the motion would gain the lady's attention if her voice couldn't be heard. ]

Can you see me?

[Scorpia hears the call, but has to look around for a moment before spotting Mrs. Brisby. When she does though, she kneels down in front of the flower to get a better look and be able to talk to her more easily.]

Wow, you're really tiny! Did you already use the spell on yourself?

"The spell?"

She giggled lightly and shook her head.

"No, of course not. I'm a mouse! We are all pretty small when compared to humans."

She blinked, taking in the lady's look including those large claws.

"Or very human-like people. You are very tall, are you really alright with being shrunk?"

"Oh! I guess that makes sense then," Scorpia said. "Though I mean, no offence, but I didn't think that mice could talk? Or that they normally wore clothes? I mean I guess things could be different where you're from, but the ones I've noticed here other than you don't really seem too different than the ones back on Etheria, so..."

Ahem. Anyway, the spell. "But yeah, I don't mind being shrunk," she said. "Really probly wouldn't be the strangest thing ever to happen to me, honestly."

"I'm not offended. I've heard that quite alot since I arrived. I suppose most people really aren't used to meeting a talking mouse and it is strange for me too. I'm not used to humans actually being able to understand me either."

Or human-like people either.
She padded closer and rubbed her little paws together before holding them out before her.

"It won't hurt but it might be a little discombobulating."

Then she closed her eyes and wished just as hard as she could. The magic flew out of her and around Scorpia causing... Something to happen. Her claws began to shrink and the rest of her soon followed.

"That must get pretty rough," Scorpia said. "I mean being so small and people not being able to understand you. I mean Rogelio has a hard enough time, and he's human-sized." Fortunately Lonnie at least could understand him, but still...

When Mrs. Brisby indicated she was ready to start the spell, Scorpia nodded and waited for whatever was about to happen to happen. And when it did, 'discombobulating' was definitely the right term. It was incredibly trippy watching and feeling her claws shrink followed soon by the rest of her. And the spell left her dizzy enough that she wound up on her backside when it was complete.

Not that she seemed to mind much, laughing a bit! "Haha, wow! It worked!", she said. "That plant is huge! And that rock is huge!" She indicated the plant Mrs. Brisby had previously climbed on and a previously small pebble before indicating Mrs. Brisby herself. "And you're huge! Well, huge for a mouse anyway."

She exhaled deeply when she opened her eyes to see what the results of the spell had been but had to giggle herself when Scorpia laughed. Her laughter was contagious!

"I didn't know it would make you quite that dizzy!"

Brisby scurried over to offer her new, now much smaller, friend a paw to help her back up to her feet. She held onto Scorpia's arm for a while too just until it was clear her dizziness had faded away and she wouldn't end up falling again.

"Being this small must give you a very different perspective? You should see one of those muffins from the cafe! A human can eat a whole one but to us they would be enormous."

Scorpia appreciated the hand up; part of her laughter was the result of the giddy, wobbly feeling that the spell had left her with. She tried not to lean too much on Mrs. Brisby as she regained her footing though; she may have shrunk to Mrs. Brisby's scale now, but compared to the somewhat petite mouse, she was was still relatively tall and heavy.

"Honestly? I think it's the tail that did it," she said, flexing her scorpion tail a bit. "Normally it helps with balance, but if I'm already dizzy it tends to pull me backward a bit."

"And yeah, things really look different from down here," she said. Then grinned. "It's too bad I didn't bring a cupcake with me; we could've had a party and invited everyone else who wanted to be shrunk."

"You can feed a small army with a cupcake!"

She agreed with a giggle but still looked past her friend to that tail and its stinging needle. That... had always looked too large to be much of a threat to her but now it was like a small sword, and dangerous enough to place a bit of distance between. Not that she thought she was in any danger of an attack but just because Scorpia was a touch dizzy.

"Maybe you should sit down for a while, just until your head clears? I could bring you some dandelion tea?"

Scorpia laughed too, but nodded. "Yeah, might be a good idea," she said, glancing around and spotting a nearby... well it was really a twig, but it looked like a log. And proved to be relatively comfortable to sit on and able to easily support her weight.

"It really is crazy," she said, running a claw over the twig's surface. "I probably wouldn't even notice this stick when I was normal sized. Or a lot of other small things. And there's probably plenty of big things that you haven't noticed too." Which gave her an idea. "Hey, after this did you want to maybe try making yourself human-sized? I bet it'd be really cool."

"A human-sized mouse?"

She laughed as the idea was ridiculous! But... her laughter slowly faded as she thought the idea over and found a few merits to it.

"I did make an acorn really large. I might be able to do that to myself."

Brisby sighed and took a seat on the stick next to Scorpia.

"I have been working on shrinking all day so I do think I had better wait until I have rested some. It is an interesting idea. Do you... think people would still try to hit me with a broom when I walked into a room?"

"Nah, I don't think they would," Scorpia said. "I mean they don't do that with the ducks so it's probably just them mistaking you for a non-Apprentice mouse."

Which reminded her... "Until you do that you might want to steer clear of my roommate, Keeper. Once you get to know him, he's actually a pretty nice guy, but well... he's sort of a jellyfish and has to eat live prey to live. He usually asks first, and won't do it if you say no, but with someone as small as you... well he might make the same mistake that the people with with brooms are making, you know?"
