smk_network[he has done this a few times by now, and for some reason is feeling less than enthusiastic about it. Perhaps it's the rain, or the ghosts outside that give him cold chills whenever they go past. Or perhaps he's just tired. He's been practicing more lately, though hasn't seem to have gotten much better.

Hello... My name is Aziraphale, or Mr. Fell, if you prefer. I would like to welcome everyone who has newly arrived-- and I don't envy you having to brave the beastly weather to get here. Still, the clouds will soon part as they say.
I know that many of you must be weary or frightened, or even dare I say, angry, at the situation you have found yourselves thrust into. But if we all work together and combine our efforts and talents, I'm sure that we'll have the Corrosion beaten back in no time. So keep a stiff upper lip and keep moving forward.
And of course, if you need anything, my door is open in the hours listed or by previous appointment.

Saying you are sorry even for minor infractions shows that you care enough about the other person to be polite. It's the same as opening a door for another party or picking up a dropped parcel. The sincerity lies not in the apology, but the respect. And for most people it's an ingrained habit from childhood.
So you may as well get used to people apologizing for small matters or you will be very annoyed very quickly.

She might have interjected that opening a door, or picking up a parcel was more useful because both of those things served a practical function whereas the apology did not but if she had.......... there would have likely been more word vomit. It was best not to inspire further speeches from the angel.]
[In fact it took her a moment to realize when he had finished. There was an awkward span of silence before she spoke up]
Are you finished? [He seemed to be, so she decided to ask something more pertinent to the original message] You're carrying yourself as if you are some sort of spokesman for this land- is this in an official capacity or a voluntary one?

I was created by the Almighty to be a general messenger to mankind and offer succor in such ways that I may-- or to give a good old prod to the bottom if it's necessary. And, well, you can't get more official than the creator of all. But as for here and these people, I wasn't given such a task, no.
