One Tired Teen Wizard on Video

(The Mirror feed opens with a tired (and sleepy) Harry sitting on his bed early in the morning a few days after the arrivals (he is still wearing his pajamas and has no glasses on, and his hair looks like a bird’s nest from tossing left and right in his sleep), although he looks as if he could fall asleep again at any moment.)

Right. I didn’t expect to get off on a shaky start with landing on my face on the floor inside the castle upon arriving a few days ago, but I guess that I should have gotten the ‘expect the worst to happen’ memo sooner than later.

(Cue loud yawning from this poor sap)

Sorry about that, it’s just that unexpected things seem to go after me back home quite a lot. Does this stuff happen to you guys in here as well?

Oh hello, I hadn’t gotten a good night’s sleep for some time since I got here. And my nose still has bruising from that landing. I am not that familiar with this inter-dimensional travel, so, yeah, that mirror did gave me some trouble.

He wasn't going to comment on the bruise as it might have been a bit of a sore spot.. but since Harry brought it up.] You know- if you find someone of the prince or princess class, they could likely heal that right up for you. [Plus the healers would benefit from experience] I also found it a little disorienting and I have made a round trip from the afterlife to the world of the living before. [Hopefully, this wouldn't seem like a morbid topic]

Yeah that is true: I can relate with the trip to the afterlife and back to the world of the living (thanks, Tom/Voldemort!) during a battle for my school. Although I didn’t feel weird upon returning back from my little trip to Limbo.

Also it is nice to meet you too. So I was wondering: I just learned about I am a Hero Apprentice from Merlin. Do you have tips for me to learn from?

Ah- then you haven't had a chance to peruse the Sorcerer Apprentice Manual. It takes a while to get it all down, but I recommend at least looking over it, and you're welcome.

[That was not what he'd expected to hear in any way. The boy looked awfully young to have had such an experience, then again hadn't he met his end shortly after ascending to the throne and sealing away that nefarious embodiment of rage? He was still in his teens at the time, so he shouldn't judge really.] If it wasn't of your own volition like in this case- mine was, then I'm sorry to hear that. [Not sure if the implication had been lost or not he didn't mention it a second time] It doesn't sound as if it was. It wasn't like arriving here, that's for sure.

A hero class? Then that means that's something we share in common. [Smiling warmly] You'll learn more in your training sessions I'm sure, but the important thing is to remember that we're only limited by our imagination, and not to get frustrated early on. There will be a particular energy that will resonate with you over the others, and it's simply a matter of clearing your mind in order to connect with it. Then you channel it through the weapon you inevitably wind up with.

I was still dizzy from that trip to give the Manual a good read. But I will read it after I clean up later today. (Harry knows that Hermione would have gotten mad at him for not reading hard enough.

He wasn’t ready to tell anyone, not even Atem, about the Sacrificial Protection and how Voldemort underestimated that loophole he made when he took his blood during his Fourth Year.)

So I get to channel my channel through a weapon but I have to make sure my mind clear enough to cast spells? That is going to be interesting. That sounds a lot like casting magic through wands, doesn’t it? (Poor Harry is about to learn that he should have listened to Snape about getting a grip on his own emotions and temper years ago.)

[Considering they had only just met, that wasn't surprising really. Atem had no reason not to be more open with his own experiences since he was beyond the point where it could have potentially jeopardized his efforts. There were unpleasant memories mixed in but he had long since accepted that the past is what forms who a person becomes and it was important not to lose sight of such things]

I wouldn't try to do all of that simultaneously. [Poking his cheek with one of his index fingers. Maybe he should have presented this a little differently] You clear your mind to connect with your element, then after that point channel it through your chosen implement. Your thoughts don't have to remain perfectly clear throughout the entire process, and it does get easier in time.

It does actually.. is that spoken from prior experience or a pop cultural reference?

Thanks for the tip, I will learn more about that once I get the newcomer training. (Then he discovers that there are elements involved) So wait, we get an element that we can connect our minds to as well? That is something new.

Oh, that is from my previous experience with wands, I’m a wizard back home: we often use them as a conduit to channel magic back home. (He knows that saying this out loud would gotten him into trouble with the International Statute of Secrecy, but with being in a different world now, he doesn’t think that hiding his previous magic experience from anyone is not the way to go.)

No problem, I'm sure you will. Advice is no replacement for experience. [Or in other words, you learn more by doing] Something like that.

I see. [Clearly amused ] That would explain it, perhaps you'll take to this sort of magic readily thanks in no small part to your experiences. [It's unlikely that Harry would have to worry about that organization here, as he surmised. ] I've known a few magicians myself.. [Referencing a few if his friends from home here ] and it takes a certain level of discipline to excel in the field [cough, though Mana, you could argue had very little discipline compared to Mahad but she made up for it in enthusiasm ]

Yeah, I can handle this whole Magic thing, even if it’s different from what I’m used to. Glad that I get to talk to you today and I am slowly getting an idea of what’s like to be a Hero class Apprentice.

[That was a decent introduction to the Hero class powers but he didn't go into much more since he didn't want to conflict with whatever Harry's instructor might say. There were other matters to be concerned with though..]

There's a lot of people here, that are willing to lend a hand when necessary or just offer some companionship. It can be an adjustment being so far from home.
