[Oh, MT can already tell that this kid is going to be just too adorable.]
Well, first you have to sign up for a mission at the board with someone else. Trust me when I say that, uh. Barging into the wild blue yonder all by yourself is a bad idea.
[There's a reason why she's been laid up in bed for weeks.]
Kid.... No. Trust me on this one. I thought I was, too, and it kicked my ass. Go to the training first. I'll even help. But wait a bit, this stuff is probably different from what you're used to.
[this is a little different than trying to explain it to his brother. for one, Link is a lot more honest. he has to think about it for a second before he decides what to say]
... Think of it this way. You're a hero back home, you said? Who's gonna be their hero if ya die here?
[He didn't expect anyone to understand Hyrule's now fractured Time-line, but, he gave it a try anyway.]
Oh. Well, Hyrule is safe, and since Zelda sent me back in time, she wanted me to be able to really grow up this time instead of sleeping through it like the last time.
She's the Princess of Hyrule. And...well, there's sorta two of her now? The grown-up one in the future is pretty sad, and I wanted to stay and help rebuild Hyrule with her, but, she was super sad, and had me go back in time to actually grow up instead of just looking grown up.
[He paused and played with his tunic.]
I have an Ocarina that lets me travel through time. I also spent seven years asleep so I could wield a sword that can seal darkness and evil can't touch. I'm the only one that can use it, but, I wasn't big enough when I pulled it from its pedestal, so it sealed me in the Sacred Realm until I was big enough.
"And I thought some of my stories were out there," Nate said quietly, smiling. "That sounds like some sword, though. We have a legend about a sword like that in my world: it was called Excalibur, and only one person was able to pull it from the stone where it was sealed for safe keeping, too. Only, he didn't fall asleep, he trained with a wizard named Merlin. I wouldn't be surprised if it was the same Merlin that lives here, honestly."
"I don't think he does. But I'll tell you a guy you'd have better luck with: his name's Sylvando, and he's teaching me how to swordfight. There's also another Warrior named Rice who's pretty good with a sword. If you want another one, don't worry about it: you'll get one at your first training, like I did. They have a whole table full of 'em."
"Because of the whole magic sword thing, I'm guessing." He was picking up what the kid was putting down. It was like the magical equivalent of bringing a knife to a gunfight. "You probably won't have that problem here."
But that doesn't make you invulnerable. [Stupid fucking child acting braver than most of the people there... fuck...] Listen, kid, we're all in this together. And I don't know what stuff was like back home for you, but it's different here. It's dangerous. You've gotta make sure you can control the magic you've got before you face any of those things.
No, but, I had to purify lots of temples by fighting the monsters that were in 'em. You gotta remove the evil stuff so the good stuff can survive. It's okay, I almost died loads of times already, I'm used to it.
[He looked worried and felt just plain confused.]
Okay, but, how long will that take? The people are all upset already. And if we wait too long lots and lots of people will die, right?
Jesus... kid you're pretty young to be doing that shit. What are you? 8? [She's a bad judge of ages...
She sighs.]
Yeah but that's not your responsibility to take on all by yourself. There's a lot of us working on this, okay? You'll help out, too, just make sure you're being safe.
I'm a fighter back home myself, and I KNOW I'm not. A sword is one thing, but magic and something like the corrosion is probably new territory for a lot of us.
At least, it is on the general principal that we have to learn to use magic proper to start.
[It was because he was small, wasn't it? Link sighed and shook his head.]
I used magic back home too. I purified temples by getting rid of the evil that was there. I--I know it's not the same here, but, I wanna get started as soon as I can.
[Oh gosh Link it was so not that that would NEVER be the reason].
Yes, but that's YOUR magic back home, not here, because people who have magic that have been brought here don't have access to that magic either. Whatever we know in our world we have to relearn here because this place used their own kind of magic.
I don't want anyone else to die either, no one wants that. But if we try to fight before we know how this corrosion works and without learning the magic, WE will die, and how will that help anyone?
From what I can tell, they're working on it. We all have different classes, and they have to get everyone together to do it. I'm going to guess they all have different schedules and all. This place is sort of big, and organization seems like it could be a little better.
Trust me, I'm with you about that: the faster we train, the better.
I'm sure it's funny to think about now, but back then it was pretty bad! That reminds me of when Steven and I had to help with a mission and I tried to make some tea out of bark, I think. It was AWFUL.

no worries!
Date: 2020-05-13 12:42 pm (UTC)I mean, Navi was always with me, but, she was small enough she could hide in my hat and she could probably escape if worst came to worst...
[Fortunately, this incarnation of Link wasn't entirely bull-headed enough to go charging into danger just to prove a point.]

Plus, I'm a Toy, so it takes a lot to put me down for good. You don't to worry about that with me, at least.
