[Rose pans her mirror down from her waaaaay tall bicycle.]

I really hope that's true, because I don't much like my chances of getting back on it if I fall. Wish me luck!

[She sets out, and so far, so good.] Okay, so anyone else get jobs yet and all that? Give me sound my first night out, since I didn't wanna risk my cybud up here.

[Exclusively for her "roommates," there's a pair of cupcakes, one for 12 and Michael respectively. 12's is banana with edible ball-bearings, and Michael's is devil's chocolate with a paperclip. Both have messages.]

"Absolutely," Rose stuck her tongue out the side, "I'm sure I'll be glowing!"

"Oh, that'd make for the neatest lighting! Do you really glow? Can I see?"

Rose tried valiantly, to no avail. "'pparently not on cue," she winced. Bet it'd make takin' pictures I'm me easier though."

"Yeah, but easy's no fun." Lydia grinned, mischief sparkling in her eyes. "I like the pictures that are trickier to take. That way when they come out right, it makes them even cooler. Don't worry, though. We're all new at this magic stuff. It just means once you get really good at it, we'll both have perfected what we need for the shot."

"No wonder you like ghosts," Rose stuck her tongue out the side. "I dunno if Torchwood exists in your universe, or if you'll remember anything from here, but you should look them up if you get the chance. They'll give you all sorts of impossible things to photograph."

"Torchwood. That sounds like something out of Mary Shelley, or ... or Rebecca. Which ... I can't remember who wrote that one but it was really good." Rose would probably remember the BBC mini-drama version before anything from a book, but still. "What do they do?"

Explaining Torchwood is harder than Rose realized. Seeing as she usually had to avoid letting people know much about it.

"Queen Victoria founded it in one universe to protect humanity from non-humans, advance humanity, further the sciences and explore where angels dare not tread. In my Dad's universe she got eaten by a werewolf, but the werewolf was being used by a human cult, so it's also about protecting other species from humans, because we can kind of screw things up, you know? But the exploring the universe and furthering the sciences is the same in both."

Rose rubbed the back of her neck in thought. "So faeries do exist in my universe and the Doctor's. But they're giant assholes. They try to lure away loners and get them to join, because they don't reproduce, and they get magic powers for it and stuff, but they have to abandon their families and friends and only be one with the fairies. Um, my Dad's Torchwood dealt a lot with cybermen, because his company before he became director of Torchwood were responsible for making them, but he dealt with a lot of other non-human species too. Some peaceful, others not so much. Toshiko was one of Jack's team, and she was a scientist that uncovered how these other aliens called the slitheen created a hoax using a pig and some advanced technology to pretend to be a crash landing to scare humans into fighting each other. Everyone's department is a little different, but I was thinking how they'd give you so much wild impossible things to photograph, yeah? Ghosts, UFOs, faeries, pretty much anything that came through the rift, for sure."
