Oh marines are... the soldiers and law enforcement of the world government. Their primary goal is to arrest and fight pirates. They're not all bad! Most of them mean well, and most pirates are pretty vicious.

Yeah, I died uh, in a war between my family and the marines. It's complicated. But Luffy was there, and I messed up big time, and the only thing I could do to save him was die so... [Headshake!] But a friend of mine said everyone got Luffy out just fine, and most of my crew, and he even made it big and flashy in the New World and I'm really thrilled!
