I don't see how one human could prevent the end of the world.
[ Not that he wouldn't like to believe the end of the world could be stopped but... you're talking about going up against some serious power here. He wasn't even sure he and Aziraphale would be able to stop it. He hoped so, made plans but those had all been derailed. ]
