[ It's Kaiba again. Unlike most of the apprentices, he doesn't appear any different from usual. No fluffy ears or yellow eyes here...but they are red, from exhaustion. He's not experienced enough yet to know why he's one of the only ones unaffected, or if there are others, but he's desperate. ]

If anyone happens to know any wards or spells that will keep loud, piercing noises from penetrating the walls of a room, I'd be grateful.

Tonight's the full moon. Every month, the Monster class turns into more primal forms. This might be an extension of that, but it's more widespread.

That is what my roommate had informed me of actually- however there had been no mention of it affecting the other classes. It would stand to reason I suppose. It was indeed a full moon and although those of the monster class should be the only ones altered that was still a phenomenon they only experienced after arriving here.

[Frowning for a moment, she soon shook her head] What am I saying? There is no reason behind any of this... I would suspect that their behavior could have been influenced through hypnosis but I cannot explain the physiological changes.

I applaud your commitment to rationality. We need more of it around here. But unfortunately for us, this place apparently really does run on 'magic'. It's in the name. Even my strongest holograms couldn't produce half of the effects I've seen, and my work is top of the line.

A hologram is essentially a computer image that is projected into the real world. It's like a light, but sculpted into a distinct form. My technology can project holograms all around you, images from light that are so realistic they can make you think you're someplace else.

Unfortunately, I don't have any my equipment nor the means to recreate it, so I can't show you. All I can show you is what little 'magic' I've learned here.

[ He takes a metallic card into his hand and wills a small flame to sprout from the corner. ]

That does not seem to fit into your description.

While you could direct light through various means like a lens or a shade how could you ever create something as fantastical as he described?] Like a mirage? Only- minus the physical conditions making the hallucinations possible in the first place of course.

[What he showed her next was not overly impressive. If she had her trusty box of matches... she could have produced the same effect] Is that what you were given to channel your... magic through? [Cards?]

...ah. Right. The historical usage. 'Computers' as I know them are a machine that was developed to perform that task. New functions were added to allow it to perform other tasks, and these machines now serve as instruction codes for automated tasks, guide rails for searching libraries of information, and many other things. But I can't build one here, so I won't bother you with it.

And yes, like a mirage, its shape and form controlled by a machine.
