Narrative/Video

It had been far too long now. Over five days since he had last heard anything from The Dreamfinder. His own magics had shown that the man was not even in Main Street! An enormous danger to all of them but more so to Blair himself. As it was, even the Mirror Portal had begun to malfunction without it's builder to maintain it.

A quiet inquiry had been sent out through the Land, to be on the look out for The Dreamfinder. Any news was to be sent straight to Merlin or Hades...none had come. Which was why he now sat at his table, staring at his own small communication mirror.

There was evidence of the old walkway to Tiki Oasis having been used. No one had used it since the Oasis had become the Dark Jungles. Whatever survivors having been the last ones through ages ago. It was a rather long shot but, Merlin had nothing else to go on.

~~~~***~~~~
[The video turns on to show a very grumpy looking Merlin.]
I am calling all Sorcerer's Apprentices that are currently with in the Magic Kingdoms. I am afraid I have rather worrisome news.
[He rubs the bridge of his nose.]
It seems that The Dreamfinder, has gone missing. I am assuming it has been of his own power but, as he is still a new Kingdom Spirit, and the last Kingdom Spirit, I am afraid he will find himself in great danger.
So I am asking for volunteers. I need to send you out into the Dark Jungles to find the Dreamfinder or else the last beat of imagination this place has will be snuffed out and everything we have been working towards will be destroyed.
[His voice grew far more grim.]
That includes your own worlds. If The Corrosion destroys Main Street, then there is nothing left between it and your worlds. And...once it leaves the Kingdoms- it can not be stopped. If you wish to volunteer please, let me know.
The fate of Imagination is in your hands, Apprentices. Do with that, what you will.
[end feed.]
Oh! Don't mistake me, I love that musical. I saw it fifty-three times on two continents.
It is so sweet and sad but... well... the ending is hardly something I want to have happen...
[also he just knows what Crowley would do with Maria]
Wow.
Well, you know it's based on Romeo and Juliet, so of course it's tragic. Shakespeare kind of had a thing for that. Because of the Greeks.
Ghh... Shakespeare and his gloomy plays...
RIGHT?! Like Hamlet and Macbeth; did he just have a contest with himself on which could be the worst?? Did he ever get out and enjoy the world?? Blimey.
blessedarethebookmakers: (unsure)
[personal profile] blessedarethebookmakers 2019-08-11 04:41 am (UTC)(link)
Oh yes. That was the only gloomy play of his that actually was a hit right off. Everyone likes a tale of lovers torn asunder because of family politics.
[and it didn't hit close to home. Why do you ask?]
I will never understand that. Clearly, none of those people have ever actually been separated from someone they love themselves. And good for them, but lay off the schadenfreude. It's unhealthy to mirror the Germans that much.
Ah, but we understand so much through tragedy. The sorrow is their deaths, true. But it's also that what drove them to it was the prejudice of their families for one another for so little reason. Hate breeds hate. Hate ends sadly. That's the lesson of the play. One of them.
[Rolls eyes.] Like that's so unique. Honestly I just liked the part of West Side Story that was all about how America seemed like this golden-brick-road, rainbow with a pot of gold, happy ending solution for everyone, but it wasn't. Not because of hate, but because it's tough eking out a living everywhere, and people make it harder for each other when they should try to make it better.
That was totally missing from Shakespeare. Two royal families who don't even remember why they're mad. Wow. So deep.
And what was even with Taming of the Shrew? A bunch of 17th century misogyny on display for eternity? Woot.
At the time, it was. At the time it hit very much to the core of things as West Side Story hits at the core of sadly contemporary things. Also without Shakespeare, there would be no West Side Story.
[and yes, well, that one was a bit horrible but] No one's perfect.
[HUFFS!] There would too! It just wouldn't be so focused on the romance part. Maybe more on the racial politics since America?? I mean, other planets have their own better versions I'm sure.
And it totally wasn't original or timely!! Tristan and Isolde, Paris and Helena, Persephone and Hay------ let's not finish that one lest someone get tetchy, but like I said! Greeks!! Every Greek tragedy had romance and at least with that one about summer and stuff... [Hand gestures!!] I'm just saying, if we don't see Persephone around, and it's mysteriously always Summer? Her future husband hasn't met her yet, and so her mom hasn't decided to curse the world the half of the year her daughter spends with the dead, yeah?
[Can we all just point out that for all of Rose's bitching because romantic tragedies are too real for her, she still picked the story to focus on with an overprotective mother who slaps her immortal son-in-law in the face and that Persephone lives as a half-ghost and torn between family alive and well or love of her life but half-dead, one way or another? Yes. Because that's not a mirror worse than any timelord Romeo and human Juliet.]
And she wasn't even the first one! There was a Sumerian princess who did it before her, right? And the tale of Princess Kaguya and the moon is way better.
Also.
Why do only tragedies last?
Where's the happily ever after? Why does everyone have to choose half-lives and death, family or romance? Careers or children? My parents got to choose both. More stories should be like that, ta.
[he finds it best not to argue Shakespeare with someone that has strong feelings about it. He does find the man's works quite genius, but it's difficult to want to fairly worship him when he knew him more or less somewhat personally. And he got the feeling he was somewhat tolerated being, on occasion, the only audience member in attendance]
There are many stories that aren't tragedies that have just as much staying power. You merely have to look for them.
bigbadrose: (Nah nah nah not I)
A few fairy tales.
Maybe I'm just doomed to always haunt the darkness.
blessedarethebookmakers: (turn away)
[personal profile] blessedarethebookmakers 2019-08-12 02:23 am (UTC)(link)
I don't think so. Not even darkness lasts forever.
bigbadrose: (So d'ya wanna come in?)
[personal profile] bigbadrose 2019-08-12 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
That's because I'm fighting it.
You and I both, Miss Rose. [though he has more faith in her success.]
